Feyenoord boss Arne Slot has outlined his intention to stay with the Eredivisie champions despite strong interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

In turn, the Dutch champions had been linked with a move for Rovers head coach Jon Dahl Tomasson who was said to be one of eight candidates to replace Slot, should he leave.

However, Slot has now confirmed that he will be staying with Feyenoord and ending any speculation over his future, with the expectation that he will now sign a new contract with the club.

Speaking at a press conference, he said: “I have heard a lot about the interest of other clubs in me.

“I am grateful for the appreciation that this expresses, but my wish is to stay with Feyenoord and continue to build on the foundations that have been laid over the past two seasons.

“There are no transfer talks going on and there have been none and yesterday's discussion was solely about a possible extension.

“All conversations with Feyenoord are only aimed at that. I look forward to the new season at Feyenoord.”

It was reported in the Netherlands that Spurs would have been required to pay £17m for Slot and members of his coaching staff, with the £5m release clause in his current contract does not come into effect until next summer.

Tomasson is well known to Feyenoord having had two successful spells as a player with the club, including where he finished his career in 2011.

The family home of the 46-year-old, who has two years left to run on his Rovers contract, is also in Rotterdam.

Speculation surrounding Tomasson is unlikely to end on the back of Slot’s decision, but Feyenoord was always the most expected given the interest in Slot, and the Rovers head coach’s links to the club.

PSV Eindhoven, who finished second to Feyenoord in the title race, are also in the market for a manager after the shock departure of Ruud van Nistelrooy on Wednesday, but Rovers have so far received no official enquiries to speak with their head coach.
