Burnley have “activated the option” to sign Jordan Beyer from Borussia Monchengladbach, the club has announced.

The German defender has signed a four-year contract after impressing while on loan at Turf Moor this season.

Beyer has made 35 appearances in all competitions since the start of the campaign and scored his first career goal during the 1-0 win against Coventry in January.

The 22-year-old has been part of a backline that has kept 21 clean sheets, helping the Clarets clinch the Championship title and pass the 100-point milestone.

“I couldn’t be happier at the moment,” he told the club website. “Lifting the trophy on Monday, winning the league and now set to become a Claret on a permanent basis.

“I’ve enjoyed being here since the moment I stepped into this building. It feels like home to me.

“I love playing at Turf Moor and celebrating with the fans and hopefully there is more of that to come.”

Beyer becomes Burnley’s first signing of the summer as the club prepares for its return to the Premier League.

Boss Vincent Kompany says the club must be “smart” on the transfer front after a memorable campaign.

Speaking at the trophy parade on Tuesday evening, he said: “We’ve been planning for comfortably six months for this scenario.

“We’re going to have to be smart but - because we’ve been planning for a long time - I feel confident we can improve the squad without losing what has been good for us this season.

“At the same time we have to make sure we don’t go and bankrupt the club. It’s about healthy decisions, protecting the club, but at the same time trying to be competitive.”
