Dilan Markanday spent time back at Rovers during the international break amid his disappointing loan spell.

Markanday hasn't played for loan club Aberdeen since his substitute appearance 24 hours after joining the club on deadline day.

Those seven minutes remain the only match action the 21-year-old has had in what has been a disappointing loan spell.

Rovers hoped the move would give Markanday the regular game-time at senior level he had wanted, having made his only one Championship appearance of the season two weeks before being free to leave on loan.

He was freed up to leave on loan just two weeks after his cameo at Rotherham United, following the arrival of Sorba Thomas.

That came 12 months after Markanday's arrival at the club from Tottenham Hotspur, but having struggled with injury, and also to catch the eye of Jon Dahl Tomasson, he has played only eight times for the club.

He was back to train with the Rovers squad during the break before returning to the Dons where he has been an unused substitute for their last eight matches.

“I feel sorry for Dilan, he’s a Rovers player and it’s not something you want when you go out on loan," Tomasson said.

“I know there have been a lot of changes there as well at Aberdeen.

“He was here with us training for three days during the international break which was good to see him and keep that contact and so he could get some new air.

“I feel sorry for him because when you send a player out on loan as a club you want him to become better and you need game-time of course to become better.”

Markanday is unable to be recalled outside of a transfer window, so will spend the rest of the season with Aberdeen who are next in action on Sunday when they host Rangers.
