CLARETS boss Owen Coyle has travelled to the Euro 2008 Champion-ships in search of a "hidden gem".

Coyle only arrived home from a holiday in Turkey late on Friday night, but he was back on the plane again the following day to spend a week in Austria and Switzerland, scouting for new players.

The trip is also being used to help fulfil part of his pro coaching licence badge, which he is currently studying towards in Scotland.

And assistant boss Sandy Stewart hoped he would be returning back to Burnley with more than just duty free.

"He'll be watching a few games to see if there is anything there that could interest us," he said. "He's going over there with an open mind to see who may become available.

"It might not be a player that we can sign just now, it might be a player that we can have a look at in January.

"He'll be compiling a dossier."

However, Stewart was under no illusion that interest in the Championships will be widespread and there will be little chance of luring any of the big stars to Turf Moor.

But he was keeping his fingers crossed that they could pick up a bargain.

He added: "Let's face it, most of the players will be attracting interest from the Premier League and the other top leagues in Europe.

"But we're looking for a hidden gem that nobody has really noticed."
