Rovers have agreed a new contract with goalkeeper Joe Hilton.

His extension follows that of Jordan Eastham who signed a new two-year deal earlier this month.

Hilton’s deal was due to expire in the summer, but he has now signed fresh terms that will keep him under contract until 2025.

The 23-year-old is yet to make his debut for the club, but has been on the bench in recent weeks.

Hilton arrived at Rovers in 2019 after leaving Everton and became a regular in the Under-21s side in his first season.

He then had a short loan spell at Fleetwood Town, where he made his senior debut, before going on to spend the remainder of the 2020/21 season with Ross County.

Hilton played 16 times for Hamilton during a season-long stay last season, but has spent most of this campaign as Rovers’ third choice.

“It feels great," Hilton said of his new contract.

"It’s been a good season so far, a lot of hard work’s gone into it and I’ve really enjoyed the campaign.

“I feel like I’ve made a lot of progress with the help of Ben (Benson, Goalkeeping Coach), who has been here the whole time I’ve been here. I have a good relationship with him and I feel like this is the right place for me to develop my career and to make an impact.

“I’ve been on loan a few times and it’s been great for me to go out and get games, being in and around a first team environment.

“I’ve matured a lot since I’ve come here and I feel it’s shown through my abilities and I’m feeling a lot better in myself.

“We have a great group of goalkeepers and coaches here, everyone wants the best for one another. It helps you progress.

“I hope I can really push on now and I want to make a name for myself."
