Burnley FC Women were 4-1 winners against Derby County in FA Women’s National League North action at the Lancashire FA County Ground in Leyland on Mother’s Day.

The Clarets took an early lead through Lizzie Hamer, before Laura Elford made it two with only seven minutes on the clock.

Leah Embley added a third before the break, with Derby pulling one back midway through the second half as Becky McGrother struck from distance.

Millie Ravening, though, netted a fourth of the afternoon from the spot with four minutes left on the clock to secure a comfortable three points.

Jay Bradford stuck with the same side that enjoyed a 5-1 success against Brighouse Town in midweek, as Lauren Bracewell captained the side.

And the Claret Women flew out of the blocks and were in front within three minutes as Hamer picked out the top corner with a stunning effort from the edge of the area.

Burnley were soon two in front through Elford, who drove forward and hammered a strike from the edge of the area in off the underside of the bar.

And Bradford’s side’s early dominance continued when Embley made it three after latching onto a flick on from Ravening and finishing well past an onrushing Maguire.

Derby would start to work a way back into the game and had a couple of chances in quick succession as Amy Sims headed over from close range before Bracewell comfortably held a strike from Emelia Wilson.

Ravening then sent a looping effort towards goal that left Imogen Maguire scrambling to get back, but the ball just went over, and Derby went up the other end as Sims headed wide of Bracewell’s goal once more.

Lara Miller and Ravening then both had chances just before half time with the former volleying at Maguire and the latter sending an effort whistling past the far post as the Claret Women went into the break in front.

Bracewell was forced into early second-half action, doing well to keep out a powerful Sims effort from close range after seeing the ball late.

The Clarets then had a chance of their own as Elford did well to win the ball back high up the pitch and allow Ravening to flick the ball through to Priestley, who sent an effort just over on the stretch.

Maguire did well to deny Priestley once more, this time from close range as Burnley looked to put the game to bed.

However, the visitors found a way back into the game, as McGrother scored with a fantastic strike from distance that bounced in off the underside of the bar, leaving Bracewell with no chance.

A couple of big chances followed for Derby, as Jess Camwell poked wide after being sent in behind and fellow substitute Camille Jenkins hit the outside of the post.

Despite the Ewe Rams beginning to work a way back into the game, the Clarets added a fourth, Ravening firing in from 12 yards out after Priestley was fouled by Molly Sutherland.

That proved to be the last action of the game as the Claret Women secured their sixth league victory in a row.
