Sorba Thomas is putting his future to one side as he looks to continue enjoying his football having regained his confidence at Ewood Park.

Thomas says he has got everything he wanted from his time at Rovers, having started every league game and helped the team climb back into the play-off spots since joining from Huddersfield Town.

The 24-year-old is under a long-term contract at Huddersfield who let him make the loan move despite their perilous position at the bottom of the table, and Thomas being a key part of the side who made the play-off final last season.

Thomas was back at his former club in midweek to watch their 0-0 draw with Bristol City and is keeping an eye on both ends of the table.

“The future for me is on the side, I’m a Huddersfield player but I’m also a Blackburn player and I just want to do the business and worry about that when the season is over,” he said.

“They have welcomed me in with open arms here.

“The main reason I needed to move was to find a happiness in football again, smile again, and I feel I’ve got that since I’ve been here.

“I’m enjoying every minute.

“The gaffer is enjoying me, you can tell that by him playing me, and every week I want to give him faith that I’m ready to play week in, week out and repay him.

“I’m enjoying my football again and I’ve always got eyes on Huddersfield, hoping for them to do well, but I’m focusing more on me at the minute.”

Thomas, who is expected to be away during the international break with Wales, sees similarities between Rovers’ position this season and that of Huddersfield in 2021/22.

The Terriers were unfancied, but together a fine run of form in the second half of the season to make it all the way to Wembley,

Thomas says confidence within the squad is unsurprisingly high on the back of four straight league wins, as well as reaching an FA Cup quarter final.

While he expressed some disappointment at not being part of the cup run having already featured in the competition for his parent club, he is loving every moment of his time at Rovers

And he feels victory over Sheffield United last weekend was a statement three points in their bid to make the play-offs.

“There is a good vibe around the club and enjoying the moment,” he explained,

“We know we have a job to do and it’s about enjoying and staying where we are.

“The Sheffield United game was probably one where most doubters probably had us down to drop points, but for us, a massive statement that we’re not just here to participate we’re here to stay in the play-offs and who knows what can happen.

“The more you win the more the confidence grows, the more the personalities come out, and it helps with the competition also.

“The closer it gets to the end of the season, goals want to be met and it’s exciting to be around the place at the minute.”
