Accrington Stanley say they will launch an investigation following their Papa Johns Trophy semi-final against Wanderers.

The Whites ran out 2-0 winners at the Wham Stadium thanks to goals from Elias Kachunga and Aaron Morley to secure a Wembley final against League One rivals Plymouth.

Bolton fans invaded the pitch following the final whistle, and there were also complaints of away supporters acquiring tickets in the home sections.

Stanley says they will now meet with the relevant authorities to discuss how to avoid similar incidents in the future.

An official statement read: “Following the incidents at the conclusion of Wednesday night's semi-final, the club have arranged to meet with the relevant authorities, including the police and the EFL, to discuss what processes are required to avoid similar issues in the future.

“The investigation will also focus on how a minority of Bolton Wanderers supporters managed to access tickets for the home sections of the stadium.

“We will make a further statement at the conclusion of the investigation.”

Accrington boss John Coleman has also shared an update on midfielder Liam Coyle, who was stretchered off following a collision with James Trafford.

Coyle suffered “multiple facial fractures” and will be monitored by the club’s medical staff in the coming days.

Trafford was booked following the incident, but Coleman felt the Manchester City loanee was fortunate to stay on the pitch.

Speaking after the game, Whites boss Ian Evatt said: “I didn’t think there was anything in that. I thought it was a harsh yellow card to be honest.

“He has won the header and it is just an awful clash of heads. I really hope Coyle is okay and recovering.

“It was a nasty clash and it is really important that he keeps his health. Fingers crossed for him.”
