Thomas Kaminski will undergo a scan to determine the course of action with his knee injury.

Kaminski missed his first league game since December 2021 as Aynsley Pears deputised in the 0-0 draw with Wigan Athletic.

The Belgian goalkeeper is understood to have been carrying a knee problem and has played through the pain barrier in recent weeks.

Kaminski wasn’t in a position to feature against Wigan after pulling out of training on Sunday, with Pears keeping his place having impressed in the FA Cup replay with Birmingham City.

It was only a seventh Championship appearance since signing in 2020 for Pears, the last of which was the 2-0 win at AFC Bournemouth on December 11 2021.

A scan will reveal the extent of any damage and whether the injury can be managed, or further action is required.

Head coach Jon Dahl Tomasson said: “I don’t know, there will be an examination in the next couple of days.

“He had a little bit of a problem for a while but nothing he couldn’t deal with and nothing that was affecting his performance.

“(On Sunday) there was a circumstance, so let’s see what happens.”

Kaminski has gone through a tough run of form at the start of 2023, but had been one of Rovers’ most consistent performers up to that stage.

Pears was restored to the side for the FA Cup replay at St Andrew’s last week in what was his sixth cup appearance of the season.

The 24-year-old had impressed in Rovers’ run to the last 16 of the Carabao Cup, as well as keeping clean sheets in the FA Cup ties with Norwich City and Birmingham.

After another shut-out against Wigan, he could be set for an extended run in the side should Kaminski be ruled out for any length of time.

“A clean sheet and defensively a very solid performance from the whole team,” Tomasson said after Rovers’ 0-0 draw.

Joe Hilton was Rovers’ substitute goalkeeper, but he has yet to make his senior debut for the club.

Pears had been earmarked for a loan move at the start of the month and was set to join Portsmouth for the second half of the season.

That would have seen Rovers move for free agent goalkeeper Nikita Haikin to provide competition for Kaminski, but both moves fell through last month.

Haikin has since signed for Bristol City on a deal until the end of the season.
