Rovers will make their case to the EFL before a decision is taken over their deadline day dealings.

That decision is expected on Thursday, with Rovers having until 9am to make their case to the league.

The EFL would need to ratify the deals to sign both Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O’Brien and Rochdale prospect Ethan Brierley, with the club having worked to finalise both moves before Tuesday’s 11pm deadline.

However, neither deal has received the approval of the EFL as their registrations hang in the balance.

Rovers will be able to make their case about the filing of the paperwork, and its timing, which is the issue in question.

O’Brien’s deal is complex in that it would be a loan to the end of the season and then a permanent option in the summer should Rovers win promotion.

That would be a deal worth £10m, meaning the stakes are high, not least to O’Brien who faces the prospect of being frozen out at Forest for the second half of the season should the deal not go ahead.

The 24-year-old, who joined the club, has played 17 times this season, but their January recruitment of midfield duo Danilo and Jonjo Shelvey has pushed him further down the pecking order.

Rovers expect to learn the fate of both deals tomorrow, and a successful conclusion will hinge on the submissions made to the league.
