Burnley have signed Swansea forward Michael Obafemi on loan with an option to make the move permanent in the summer.

Obafemi becomes the Clarets’ fourth signing of the January transfer window after Ameen Al-Dakhil, Hjalmar Ekdal and Lyle Foster.

The 22-year-old spent time in Arsenal’s youth ranks before making his professional debut for Southampton in 2018, later becoming their youngest-ever goalscorer.

He made the move to Swansea in the summer of 2021 and has scored 15 goals in 52 appearances for the Welsh club.

Obafemi has also scored twice in seven caps for the Republic of Ireland senior side, having also represented them at youth level.

The attacker was linked with a move to Turf Moor over the summer and is relishing the opportunity to be part of Kompany’s squad.

He told the club’s website: "I'm glad to be here. It's been a busy few days, but I am just glad that it's finally done now.

"When I first heard of Burnley's interest in the summer I was adamant to come here. Obviously it didn't happen then, but now I'm here and I just can't wait to play in the claret and blue.”

Burnley are currently five points clear at the top of the Championship table, having lost just two league games since the start of the campaign.

The Clarets have won their last eight league matches and have a 17-point cushion over third-place Middlesbrough at this stage.
