Burnley have made South African international Lyle Foster their third signing of the January transfer window.

The 22-year-old striker has put pen to paper over a four-and-a-half-year deal at Turf Moor and arrives from Belgian side Westerlo for an undisclosed fee.

Foster began his career with Orlando Pirates before heading to French club AS Monaco in January 2019.

He also had stints at Cercle Brugge and Vitoria SC before joining Westerlo in 2021, initially on a loan deal before making the move permanent 12 months later.

The 6ft 2in forward represented his country between Under-17 and Under-23 levels and has gone on to earn nine senior caps.

He told the club’s website: "I'm very happy to be here, I’m blessed and thankful for the opportunity and I just can’t wait to get started.

“From the moment I heard that there was interest from Burnley, my heart and my head were set on the club. I’m so happy to be here now. It’s a dream for me.”

The Clarets have already brought in defensive duo Ameen Al -Dakhil and Hjalmar Ekdal this month as they aim to extend their lead at the top of the Championship table.

Vincent Kompany’s side have won their last eight league matches and currently five points clear of second-place Sheffield United.

Burnley are back in action at the weekend when they make the long trip to Portman Road to take on League One Ipswich in the FA Cup fourth round.

They overcame Premier League side Bournemouth in the previous round following a 4-2 victory at the Vitality Stadium. Manuel Benson and Anass Zaroury both scored twice that day.
