Rovers are pressing ahead with their plans to land Hibernian defender Ryan Porteous in this window.

The Lancashire Telegraph has been told that Rovers have made a six-figure bid for the 23-year-old in a bid to bring him to Ewood Park this month.

Porteous is out of contract in the summer and Hibs are looking to cash-in on the Scotland international in the January transfer window, rather than lose him on a free transfer when his contract expires.

Rovers are looking to take advantage of that and are said to have tabled a six-figure bid.

Previous reports had suggested that Hibs would hold out for £500,000 for Porteous.

However, the Scottish Premiership club have conceded that Porteous will be leaving the club and are looking to cash in this month.

Several other Championship clubs have been linked with his services, but Rovers appear to be in pole position.

French side Toulouse, KV Oostende of Belgium and Italian club Bologna have all been credited with interest in Porteous, while a potential move to Udinese broke down.

Jon Dahl Tomasson said ahead of the window that Rovers could look to do deals similar to that of Ryan Hedges 12 months ago.

Then Rovers signed the Wales international for an undisclosed fee, having previously targeted him on a pre-contract agreement.

And is that make-up of deal that Rovers are looking to strike with Porteous, and get ahead of other interested parties.

Porteous is understood to be a long-term target for Rovers, and their knowledge of him has only been enhanced by the appointment of Luke Griffin as the club’s head of European scouting who previously worked at Hibs.

The defender has played over 150 times for Hibs and has been capped once by Scotland.
