Burnley full-back Matt Lowton has joined Huddersfield on loan until the end of the season.

The 33-year-old has made just a couple of League Cup appearances for the Clarets this season, with Connor Roberts and Vitinho playing at right-back in the league.

Lowton joined Burnley from Aston Villa in the summer of 2015 and has gone on to make more than 200 appearances for the club.

The defender was part of the squad that clinched the Championship title under Sean Dyche in 2016 and also featured against Aberdeen in the Europa League.

He made 27 appearances in all competitions last season as the Clarets were relegated from the Premier League.

Huddersfield boss Mark Fotheringham told the club's website: “Matt is an excellent addition to the group and I’m really looking forward to working with him.

“He has an incredible amount of experience at the highest level of the game in this country, so he brings a real depth and reliability to what remains a relatively young group.

“He has already shown his professionalism and ability in the short time he’s been training with us, and I know he’s going to fit in perfectly with our existing group.”

The Terriers currently sit 23rd in the table, having won just seven of their opening 25 league matches since the start of the campaign.

Head of football operations Leigh Bromby added: “We’re really pleased to have Matt join us, and it’s an important signing for us to have completed early in the window.

“To bring in that level of experience gives our group a real boost both on and off the field, giving us depth with Ollie Turton currently sidelined.

“To have played at the top level for the majority of your career says so much about not only your ability but your approach to training and being a professional, and those are all qualities we’re hoping to benefit from until the end of the season.”

Huddersfield are back in action this weekend when they head to Deepdale to take on Preston in the FA Cup third round.
