Burnley FC in the Community (BFCitC) have rebranded their Disability Sports Project as part of a revamp of their services going into the new year.

The Championship club's official charity's project, now called ‘Limitless Clarets’, aims to give its participants the opportunity to learn and grow and they hope the new name will reflect the fact that “no matter if someone has an impairment or special educational needs, their success is limitless.”

The word ‘Clarets’ comes from the charity’s roots to Burnley Football Club and their traditional colours.

BFCitC have also shared the results of a survey that was given to participants, parents and carers to find out what they would like to see at sessions in order to enhance participants’ learning and help them build skills for the future.

  • 52 per cent of participants/parents/carers wanted to see sensory sessions
  • 86 per cent of participants/parents/carers wanted to see athletics
  • 10 per cent of participants/parents/carers wanted to see kurling (adapted version of curling to be used in areas such as sports halls)
  • 71 per cent of participants/parents/carers wanted to see boccia (a Paralympic sport played indoors with soft leather balls)

As a result of this, BFCitC have partnered with SensoryFlo to deliver sensory sessions free of charge for young people aged five to 15 and have created a multi-sport timetable.

In a bid to improve their communication, BFCitC will introduce a weekly newsletter to keep participants, parents and carers informed, and will introduce visual aids such as flashcards and symbols to further build communication with their participants.

Additionally, there will be a new Match Day package that will give participants the opportunity to have further football training sessions before attending Burnley’s Championship match against Queens Park Rangers in April.

They have also confirmed they are in talks with Manchester City in the Community and Chester FC to arrange fixtures, and adult participants will return to competitive football as part of the Ability Counts League which is held in Salford.
