Rovers are back on the road to take on Sunderland as their busy festive period continues.

Jon Dahl Tomasson’s men enter the game on the back of a 4-1 defeat against Premier League Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup fourth round.

Rovers currently sit third in the Championship table – five points off the automatic promotion slots at this stage.

Meanwhile, Sunderland are in 13th place and drew 1-1 at Hull in their last outing despite Ross Stewart’s opener.

When and where is the game being played?

The fixture takes place at the Stadium of Light on Boxing Day (12.30pm). Rovers ran out 2-0 winners when the sides met at Ewood Park earlier this season after goals from Ben Brereton and Scott Wharton.

The Black Cats recorded a 2-1 victory when the sides last met in the North East back in December 2011. Simon Vukcevic was on target that day.

Sunderland boss Tony Mowbray spent five years in the hot seat at Ewood Park prior to his departure over the summer.
