Ashley Barnes admitted a Football Association charge and has been fined.
The Burnley striker had until last Friday to respond to an improper conduct charge which related to comments made after last month’s East Lancashire derby.
The 33-year-old scored twice, his first league goals of the season, in the 3-0 win for the Clarets in the November 13 meeting.
Barnes was later hit with an FA charge, which the striker accepted, as the FA revealed its decision this afternoon.
An FA statement read: “An independent regulatory commission has fined Ashley Barnes £7,500 for breaching FA rule E3.1 after Burnley FC’s EFL Championship match against Blackburn Rovers FC on Sunday 13 November 2022.
“The forward admitted that his comments during a post-match interview constitute improper conduct as they were improper, bringing the game into disrepute, and used abusive and insulting words.
“The independent regulatory commission imposed its sanction during a subsequent hearing and its written reasons will be published in due course.”
Barnes will look to build on his double against Rovers when Burnley travel to QPR on Sunday.
