Jon Dahl Tomasson was pleased to see Sam Gallagher back on the training pitch, but says the attacker won’t feature in the friendly against Ajax today.

Jake Garrett and Jack Vale have also been ruled out of featuring having picked up knocks while out in Spain.

The hope is that all three will be able to train next week in the lead up to Rovers’ return to Championship action against Preston North End on Saturday, December 10.

Gallagher has been struggling with a gash above his right knee sustained in the defeat to Burnley that saw him have to be replaced in the second half.

He trained with the squad for the first time since on Friday but will train alone on Friday and not be involved against Ajax because of his lack of minutes on the training pitch.

“First of all it was his first day,” Tomasson said of Gallagher.

“It was his first minutes but he won’t be involved because it was only one training session and he will not be ready.

“But it’s positive that he’s out there after more or less three weeks without being able to do anything which is really positive.

“So far it’s going well.”

Midfielder Garrett and striker Vale have picked up minor injuries while out in Spain, but Tomasson hopes both will be able to train next week.

“Garrett rolled his ankle. He’ll probably train on Monday but won’t play in the game,” the head coach added.

“Jack has a sore calf and will probably train next week so won’t be involved in the game.”

Georgie Gent was added to the squad earlier in the week and came on for the final 10 minutes against Hearts and had some eye-catching moments.

That took the number on the trip to 31, while Rovers have since added Kristi Montgomery and Pat Gamble to the squad to boost numbers ahead of the Ajax friendly.

The starting line-up will be made up of the players who didn’t feature against Hearts yesterday.
