Ashley Barnes has been charged by the Football Association for comments made after the East Lancashire derby at Turf Moor.
The FA have given Barnes until Friday to respond to the improper conduct charge which relates to comments made in an interview following the game.
The 33-year-old scored twice, his first league goals of the season, in the 3-0 win for the Clarets in the November 13 meeting.
An FA statement read: “Ashley Barnes has been charged with breaching FA Rule E3.1 during an interview that took place after Burnley FC’s game against Blackburn Rovers FC on Sunday 13 November 2022.
“The forward’s comments allegedly constitute improper conduct in that they are improper and/or bring the game into disrepute and/or use abusive and/or insulting words.
“Ashley Barnes has until Friday 2 December 2022 to provide a response.”
