Burnley’s Carabao Cup trip to Manchester United will take place on Wednesday, December 21 (KO 8pm), the club has confirmed.

The fixture has been selected for live coverage on Sky Sports and ticket details will be announced in due course.

The Clarets booked their place in the fourth round following a 3-1 win against League Two outfit Crawley Town thanks to a brace from substitute Anass Zaroury.

They also overcame Shrewsbury Town in the second round, with Samuel Bastien getting the decisive goal that night.

Meanwhile, United recorded a 4-2 victory against Premier League rivals Aston Villa at Old Trafford in the third round.

Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes and Scott McTominay were all on target for Erik ten Hag’s side.

The points were shared when the sides last met back in February, with Jay Rodriguez cancelling out Paul Pogba’s opener.

The Clarets’ last win against the Red Devils came in January 2020 when Chris Wood and Rodriguez scored either side of half time in a memorable 2-0 victory.

Burnley boss Vincent Kompany has plenty of history with United from his playing career at Manchester City.

The Belgian is no stranger to success in the Carabao Cup, having won the competition four times during his time at the Etihad.

The Clarets reached the quarter-final stage of the competition during the 2008/09 season after beating Arsenal and Chelsea among others but were eventually knocked out by Tottenham Hotspur.

Kompany's men head into the World Cup break at the top of the Championship table following Sunday's 3-0 win against fierce rivals Blackburn Rovers.

Meanwhile, United are currently fifth in the top flight, having won eight of their opening 14 league games since the start of the campaign.
