Adam Wharton admits getting off the mark for Rovers was something he had “dreamt of many times”.

The youngster was on target on the stroke of half time during the 2-1 win against Birmingham City over the weekend.

He gave John Ruddy no chance, finding the bottom corner with a clinical strike from the edge of the box.

Wharton said: “I have dreamt of it many times. It is a dream come true really and I am delighted to score, but the three points is the most important thing.

“It just broke to me off one of their defenders. I was looking for a pass and the space sort of closed up a bit. I just thought, ‘why not have a go?’ I went for it and it went in.

“I have had (the celebration) in my locker for a few years. I practiced it when I was younger but it is always there for the special occasions.”

Rovers made it three wins on the spin at the weekend, but they had to work hard to come out on top against the Midlands club.

“It was good to go 2-0 up at half time but we knew they were going to come out fast,” added the youngster. “Then second half looking for a goal to try and get something out of the game.

“They changed formation a few times I think and we just had to dig in deep second half and keep the ball out of our net and out of the box as much as we could.”

Jon Dahl Tomasson’s men have now won their last five matches at home, and Wharton insists the fans have played their part.

“I think we are turning Ewood into a bit of a fortress,” he explained. “It is a tough place for the opposition to come and get something out of it.

“We have won the majority of our games here this season. Credit to the fans, getting behind us every time we come to Ewood. It just shows how much they help us.”
