Jon Dahl Tomasson expects Ben Brereton to be ‘ready to go’ for tomorrow’s trip to Wigan Athletic – with Rovers’ top scorer eager to continue his run in the side.
The Chile international took his tally to seven for the season with his brace in the 3-0 win over Rotherham United.
He was replaced for the final quarter, having also been taken off in the defeat at Cardiff City. However, the 23-year-old is determined to keep up his 100 per cent record in the side as he, and Rovers, look to build on a promising start.
He said: “As a footballer you want to be involved in every game, playing every minute, giving your all for the club.
“I came off on Saturday, but I want to be involved in every game.
“I’ve had internationals as well, playing games over there and coming back it can be tough, but it’s what you need to do.
“We’ll get a little break in November when it’s about the recovery.
“If you aren’t feeling 100 per cent then there are people in this team that can step up with the same quality.”
Head coach Tomasson was awaiting a report from the medical department when speaking at his pre-match press conference, but does a number of options to choose from, including Brereton.
Clinton Mola and Adam Wharton came into the squad for the weekend win over Rotherham, with John Buckley and Hayden Carter dropping into the Under-21s.
Tomasson, who reverted to his three-man defence against the Millers, will have selection choices once again as Rovers look to break their win-lose sequence.
The Wigan fixture is Rovers’ fourth of the month already, and asked about the training they are able to do, Tomasson said: “When you’re playing as many games as we are it’s about keeping fresh for the games.
“We had a meeting first, then went out and did set plays, defensive and attacking, and the team that played on Saturday went in.
“We walked through things in shadow.
“We’ve been using some different players in each game, rotating a little bit.
“At the moment I haven’t got the report back from the medical department how people are, if they are ready to go.
“Bez (Brereton) should be ready to go which is positive isn’t it.”
Midfielder Buckley started the defeat at Cardiff but then wasn’t involved against Rotherham.
He played 90 minutes in the Under-21s’ Premier League 2 win at Manchester City, scoring a late free-kick in the 3-1 victory.
“He got a good goal,” Tomasson said.
“He started a bit sloppy, but grew into the game.
“All those players who play for the Under-21s I always look back at those games, all the clips.
“I always get that provided because if you give players the chance to be fit, if they need minutes for example, you need to give them feedback as well.
“Four of the players who played for the Under-21s will be giving presentations to the staff later today.”
