Jon Dahl Tomasson says he will look at the Championship table eventually – but not now – despite Rovers being on the cusp of the top six with 13 games played.

Victory over Rotherham United was a seventh this season for Rovers, who have won the equal-most games in the division.

They are outside the top six only on goal difference, and sit only three points off the top of what has become an increasingly tight Championship table.

Indeed, victory on Tuesday night at Wigan Athletic would see them move level with the top three sides in the division who are all locked on 24 points.

However, Tomasson is instead turning his focus to Rovers’ performances, more than results or the league standings.

A double from Ben Brereton, which included a first half penalty, and a Sam Szmodics strike helped Rovers to a 3-0 win over the Millers as Rovers responded to the midweek defeat at Cardiff City.

Asked if he would now take stock of the table, Tomasson said: “I’ll almost say never, but I’d be lying, but not now.

“I’m looking at the performances which we’ve spoken about.

“It’s been a big transition in how we’re doing things, I’m not saying better or worse, but different.

“That’s why I’m always talking to our fans about patience which is key to this project and to help our young side.

“A victory like this should give confidence that if we can do the right things, football can look easier.”

Of Rovers’ seven wins, five have come at Ewood Park, with the Millers success a third in a row on home turf.

Despite having 15 points from a possible 21 at home, Tomasson believes that figure could be even more.

Yet Rovers again showed that when taking the lead they can be good frontrunners, winning all seven games in which they have scored first.

With strong home form to rely on, the challenge now is to find more points on the road ahead of Tuesday night’s trip to Wigan Athletic.

“I have spoken about Ewood Park as a fortress,” Tomasson added.

“Those games we have played at home, we should have won more.

“We are looking strong at home with our supporters.

“Winning and losing are very close to each other. Winning seven games is a good performance in that way, we’ve lost games as well, and we need to try and get those draws some times.

“It’s also about getting everyone in the right direction, working on things, and it’s great to see things working in that way.”
