Burnley return to action this weekend after the international break, making the long trip to face Cardiff City.

Vincent Kompany’s men recorded a 2-1 win against Bristol City at Turf Moor in their last outing thanks to goals from Manuel Benson and Jay Rodriguez.

The Clarets are currently fourth in the Championship table - just three points behind the automatic promotion places at this early stage.

Team news

Saturday’s game might come too soon for Charlie Taylor, who missed the 2-1 win against Bristol City through injury.

Kompany are also having to be patient with Scott Twine, who hasn’t featured since the opening day.

But the Clarets chief says there are no “major concerns” on the injury front and is planning to make the most of his squad over the next month, with eight games pencilled in.

As for the hosts, Welsh international Rubin Colwill is a doubt due to a “little niggle” and will be monitored.

Opposition lowdown

Cardiff are still searching for a permanent replacement for Steve Morison, who was sacked following a 1-0 defeat against Huddersfield Town earlier this month.

Mark Hudson, who also had a stint as caretaker manager at Huddersfield, will be in the dugout this weekend.

The Bluebirds are currently 18th in the table, one point above the drop zone, after taking 11 points from their opening 10 games.

Head-to-head

Burnley have faced Cardiff 75 times in their history, with a record of 29 wins, 26 draws and 30 defeats.

The Clarets ran out 2-0 winners when the sides met back in 2019, with Chris Wood scoring either side of half-time.

The outcome was the same at the Cardiff City Stadium a year prior, with Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Sam Vokes on target.
