Tyler Morton has been added to the England Under-21s squad for the first time.

The on-loan Rovers midfielder had previously been named on the standby list for the Young Lions but has now been added to Lee Carsley’s squad.

Morton has won three caps at Under-20s level, but the 19-year-old will now set his sights on winning his first cap for the Under-21s, whose boss is former Rovers midfielder Lee Carsley.

A start against Luton Town on Saturday was an 11th appearance for Morton since signing on a season-long loan deal from Liverpool.

His Anfield team-mate, and former Rovers loanee, Harvey Elliot, was included in Carsley’s original 25-man squad named for the upcoming games with Italy and Germany.

On Thursday, the day before the senior side face Italy, the Under-21s face the same opposition at Stadio Adriatico, home of Serie C side Pescara (4.30pm).

They then return for a home fixture against Germany which takes place at Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane home on Tuesday, September 27 (7.45pm).

Carsley said: “These fixtures against Italy and Germany signal the start of a season that will conclude with the U21 European Championships next summer so the challenge that lies ahead is clear for all of our players. We are also mindful that we play a part in supporting Ian Foster's age group with their preparations for next year's FIFA U20 World Cup.”

Morton is the third Rovers player to be called up to the England age group sides, with Ash Phillips and Adam Wharton both in the England Under-19s squad for their trio of European qualifiers.

Meanwhile, Rovers Under-18s forward George Chmiel has been included in the Poland Under-19s for their three upcoming European Championship qualifiers.

The second-year scholar will link up with his national team for games against Bosnia & Herzegovina (Wednesday, September 21), Estonia (Saturday, September 24) and Italy (Tuesday, September 27), all to be played in Poland.

Chmiel, who has previously been capped by Poland Under-18s, scored his second goal of the season as Rovers Under-18s picked up their first win against Leeds United.
