LONGSIDE lifted the Lancashire Telegraph Cup following one of the most dramatic spells in the cup's recent history.
All five goals in the Burnley Sunday League Division Two final were contained to a frantic second half spell just when it appeared the match would be heading for extra time.
Up until then, both sides had cancelled each other but the stalemate was broken and the final sprung to life when Moore opened the scoring for Longside in the 75th minute.
It started an incredible chain reaction of goals - scored virtually from every restart.
Glory hardly had time to recover when Longside doubled their lead through Whittaker who rose to head home from a corner.
But Longside, still in the hunt for the Division Two title, were anything but home and dry and Glory cut the deficit from the restart when the hard-working Welch scored from inside the area.
But a two-goal lead was restored moments later when Longside attacked from the kick off and Moore bagged his second following a fine cross from Whittaker. But the goal-scoring and drama didn't end there as Glory made sure the cup final would go right to the wire when Welch worked his way down the left flank and his cross was converted by O'Reilly.
But that is where the scoring ended, although Ellridge struck the Glory post with a well driven shot.
For Glory, it was a case of what could have been, as they spurned a string of first half chances to take control of the final played at the Arbories in Padiham.
O'Reilly should have put Glory in front but wasted his early chance before Bibby produced a wonderful acrobatic save to keep Longside on level terms going in to the break.
Welch for Glory and Ellridge for Longside were the stand-out players who dominated play in the middle of the park.
After the break, Thomas denied Longside the lead when he cleared off the line before Glory had an another opportunity to break the deadlock but once again the chance went begging.
Missed chances and spurned opportunites seemed to be the order of the day - but little did either side know about the drama that was come!
