The Lancashire League season this weekend. Here, Lancashire Telegraph Sport looks at Church.
>> CHURCH
Captain: Phil Gilrane
Professional: Niel Bredenkamp (South Africa)
Last season: 12th
Ins: Barry Shorrock, Mark Gilrane (both Oswaldtwistle Immanuel)
Outs: Oliver Rigby (Haslingden), Nick Westwell (retired)
Gilrane: "I've already read a few things where people have written us off this season.
"Nothing is really expected of us, but I don't see it like that.
"I believe we are good enough to achieve a mid-table position.
"I feel we are better than four or five other teams.
"But we just want to improve on last season's position, and also have a good cup run.
"The first six to eight games are important - we must start well and get a few early wins. Hopefully then we'll be on the up.
"We've had a change of captaincy and pro - and I think that will help.
"Niel's a young lad with a lot of ability - they've got high hopes for him back in South Africa.
"It's going to be close for the title.
"But Ramsbottom are going to do well with Lou Vincent - he's a terrific player - and I expect East Lancs will challenge."
