BACUP manager Brent Peters has slammed the fixture congestion that will see his side play seven games in 14 days in order to finish on the League deadline at the end of the month.

Bacup's match at Maine Road was one of three local fixtures to fall victim to the weather on Saturday - Flixton v Nelson and Bootle v Padiham were also cancelled.

Bacup are due to host Colne tonight, although that fixture is also in doubt.

Peters said: "There are two major factors in all of this. The first is bad fixture planning which saw us playing away from home several weeks on the bounce "This opbviously meant back-to-back weeks at home at a time when we were having the worst of the weather.

"The other major factor is just that, the weather.

"Why we have to finish in April is a mystery, after all the Vodkat League do not have two weeks of play-offs like other leagues do."
