BURNLEY manager Owen Coyle has hailed the Turf Moor faithful as the best fans in the Championship', and hopes they can play their part in ending the season on a high.

The Clarets kick-off the last four games of the campaign at home to Sheffield United this afternoon, with FA Cup finalists Cardiff City the last team to visit in two weeks' time.

Coyle has targeted six points from those home encounters as a minimum return, with trips to Southampton and Crystal Palace making up the remaining fixtures.

But while the final play-off spot remains within reach, with Crystal Palace four points ahead, the Burnley boss is looking for their home form to count.

"It was well documented, even prior to when we came in, the home form wasn't great. We didn't initially get a result but I never lost any belief that it would turn because we were playing well enough, without getting a little bit of luck," the Burnley boss said.

"We've turned it round and we have to make sure we're going to continue that. We've got two home games left, we want maximum points from both home games, and that starts today.

"We have to make sure we're positive in everything we do, stop gifting silly goals and give ourselves a fighting chance and if we do that, as we've shown in recent months at Turf Moor we're capable of winning those matches.

"We want players relaxed playing football but equally tuned into the job they've got to do. We're a better team when we're compact and play at a high tempo, and that's been evident.

"When the pace comes out of the game we're not as formidable as when it is a high tempo.

"That's what we're looking for, and at the end of the day we want to give supporters a lift and something to shout about, and that's how we'll go about it."

He added: "I've said before, we've got a fantastic group of fans both home and away and we want to give them something to shout about.

"We want to keep developing the club and really get it on a par with the support I feel we have.

"I'm under no illusions we have the best support in the Championship and I want that to continue, and equally we want to be turning in performances and keep them coming along.

"You look at the crowds in the Championship and teams have 25,000 and what have you. We know we're not the biggest club, but we have a set of supporters who are loyal and vocal."

However, while Coyle welcomes the vocal backing from the stands, after losing early goals to Hull City, Preston North End, and Norwich last weekend, he has stressed to his players that they must also help themselves.

"I think it's a big ask every week to keep asking the players to come back from one down," he said.

"More often than not they've come back though, and even at Norwich having lost a goal after 63 seconds, for the rest of the game, without being as fluent as we are, we carried the fight and did have opportunities within the game to get that equaliser.

"So the spirit's there, and there's a lot of quality there, we just have to stop shooting ourselves in the foot and if we do that we can win games week in, week out.

"You can stand losing goals in games, but they have been gifts.

"Last week we had an opportunity to clear and when we eventually lost the goal I think we had eight players back within eight-twelve yards of our own goal, so that was a soft goal to concede.

"At Preston we lost an early goal having started really well, but again it was just down to individual errors within each move.

"That's about mental strength to make sure you're not giving yourself a mountain to climb in games because when we've done that and looked solid and looked the part there's no doubt we can win those games.

"We know the nature of the Championship that the margins are so fine sometimes they've conspired against us.

"But the one thing we don't do is feel sorry for ourselves.

"We'll take it on the chin and feel stronger for it.

"It's always a very positive outlook and that's the way it will be - and that continues now.

"We've got four games and we can feel we can win each one."
