Ian Stott, of the Blackburn and District CTC, rode an excellent race around the ultra-tough Circuit of the Dales course on Sunday to take fourth place overall in a star-studded field.

Almost ignoring the bitterly cold conditions around the 50-mile loop, which takes in some severe climbs and descents in the Ingleton area, Stott clocked 2 hour 10 minutes 9 seconds against the winning 2h 03 25s of Mark Holton, riding for the sponsored ProBikeKit team.

The next best East Lancashire-based rider was the evergreen Peter Greenwood, of the Clayton Velo Cycling Club, who returned a time of 2h 16m 40s which easily also gave him the Veteran 50+ award, whilst Blackburn-based Dave Ebbrell recorded 2h 17m 46s, which helped his new team of Wheelspin Cycles to win the three man Team Award.

Adam Pinder, 17, also of the Blackburn CTC, used his renowned hill-climbing ability to slip inside the 2hour 20minute barrier, with his 2h 19m 12 seconds knocking almost 20 minutes off his time of two years ago.

Even after 50 years, this Nelson Wheelers promotion continues to attract competitors from the length and breadth of the country.
