BLACKBURN Rovers midfielder Steven Reid is desperate for the club to qualify for the Intertoto Cup - because he wants another taste of European football.

The Republic Of Ireland international has only featured twice in the UEFA Cup, playing a part in both legs of the 4-2 aggregate defeat to Turkish side Genclerbirligi Ankara in 2003.

But over the past couple of campaigns, a series of injuries has forced Reid to be a frustrated onlooker as Rovers tackled Europe.

The 1-1 draw against Spurs put a dent into Blackburn's European ambitions, which makes results against Liverpool, Manchester United and Portsmouth in the next three weeks vital.

But the 27-year-old is hoping to do his bit to try to get his side into the Intertoto Cup and make his dream come true.

He said: "On a personal level, it's going to mean a bit more because I've helped the club get to Europe in previous seasons and not been able to play a part because of the injuries.

"I'm desperate for us to get there next season, get a full season under my belt, and get us into the latter stages of the European competition if we do get there."

Reid's appearance against Spurs was his 100th league game in a Blackburn Rovers shirt, and his 20th of this season, after an anterior cruciate knee ligament injury and a back injury saw him out of action from September 2006 until his substitute appearance at Fulham last November.

And Reid admitted he's trying to enjoy what's left of the season.

He said: "I'm still getting up to full speed, but I'm feeling fitter and stronger with every game that I play.

"I'm looking forward to getting the results for European football, but I'm also looking forward to pre-season and getting a full season under my belt next year.

"To be honest, I'm feeling at a good level now. I'm feeling fit and strong, otherwise the manager wouldn't have me in the team.

"I think there's more to come though. Obviously pre-season is going to be a big help and, hopefully, it'll be a season where I'm fully fit and I play the whole campaign.

"I'm delighted to be playing now and playing a part in the run-in because, at times when I was out injured, I didn't think this would come round again.

"This time last year, I was just getting over the operation after getting my cruciate re-constructed.

"It's a great achievement for me, after the injuries I've had."
