Former top referee Alan Wilkie has become the first assessor ever to be suspended.

Wilkie has been punished after an incident in the match between Everton and Blackburn Rovers last month.

A storm broke when assistant Glenn Turner ruled out a goal from Everton's Andy Johnson for offside.

That was proved to be a wrong decision because three Blackburn players were keeping Johnson onside and the goal should have stood.

The game finished 0-0.

Turner was suspended for his blunder and Wilkie, assessing the officials at the match, is in trouble for the mark he gave the assistant.

Premier League officials claim it was too high in view of the mistake and urged Wilkie to change it to a lower one.

But he refused and has been suspended.
