Rovers have received an offer for Ben Brereton from Fulham – but won’t be entertaining the bid from the Premier League side.

Fulham’s bid for Brereton, while not disclosed, is thought to be well short of Rovers’ valuation of the player and won’t be considered by the club.

Marco Silva’s side are said to be in the market for a new attacker before tonight’s 11pm deadline and turned to the 23-year-old in a bid to strengthen their ranks.

While several other Premier League clubs have been interested, Fulham have tabled a bid, but well short of Rovers’ valuation is thought to be north of £15m.

It remains to be seen whether they will return with an improved offer on deadline day.

News of the initial bid emerged after Brereton scored his third goal of the season to give Rovers a 1-0 win at Blackpool.

Brereton has been the source of speculation throughout the window, but has continued to perform for Rovers, with eight appearances in all competitions and three goals.

French side OGC Nice and Spanish outfit Celta Vigo have made bids for Brereton, who is into the final year of his contract, but both well short of Rovers’ asking price.

With Brereton potentially available on a free transfer next summer, and clubs outside of England able to negotiate a pre-contract agreement in January, overseas sides have been unwilling to break the bank for the Chile international.

It has become increasingly clear that it will likely require a bid from a Premier League club to prise the attacker out of Ewood Park before the 11pm deadline, but they too are yet to get close to the figure that it would require Rovers to sell.

Jon Dahl Tomasson, speaking of the likelihood of Brereton staying after the Blackpool win, said: “Let’s wait and see, I hope so.

“Ben has great quality, works hard for the team.

“When I arrived here he didn’t work so hard without the ball but now he’s flying around with a smile on his face.

“Hopefully he can stay and if not then we need a lot of money.”

Brereton hit 22 goals for Rovers last season having also starred on the international stage for Chile.

He spoke with Sky Sports after netting the winner at Bloomfield Road and appeared relaxed on his future.

He said: “It is what it is, I’ve got a Rovers shirt on and I’ve been playing for Rovers and I’ll be doing everything I can.

“I’m happy here and it’s amazing to get the three points with the boys and we’ll see what the next game.

“I’ll go in to training with Rovers, do my warm down, get in the ice bath and see what happens.”

Everton have been heavily linked with a move for Brereton, but are yet to table an offer.

West Ham United have long been credited with interest, and there had been a feeling that they could yet make a late move for the attacker.

The onus is now on Fulham however as to what their next move is, with the Premier League new boys keen to strengthen their ranks after an encouraging start to life back in the top-flight.
