Ben Brereton hasn’t made any demands to Rovers over his future – as Jon Dahl Tomasson again outlined: ‘he is enjoying his time here’.

Sky Sports reported that ‘Brereton is determined he wants to leave’ the club as speculation over his future continued to intensify.

However, sources at the club and also close to the player have refuted those suggestions and insist Brereton is focusing his efforts on continuing to perform for Rovers amid the ongoing speculation over his future.

Tomasson too has stated on a number of occasions that Brereton hasn’t at any stage asked to leave, nor has he shown any signs of wanting away, reiterating that in his pre-match press conference on Monday afternoon.

That comes amid the continued talk over his future, with Rovers last week rejecting a bid of £8.4m from OGC Nice.

The Ligue 1 club are yet to return with a follow-up bid as the final week of the transfer window approaches.

Talks with Brereton’s representatives over the prospect of a new deal have previously been held, efforts which would be stepped up should he remain at the club beyond September 1.

However, with Brereton into the final year of his deal, the club face an uphill task to strike a new agreement given the level of interest in the 23-year-old who would be available on a free transfer next summer.

While the club are sticking to their valuation for the Chile international, understood to be at least the initial £15m they received for Adam Armstrong last summer, they wouldn’t stand in the way of Brereton should an offer that is deemed acceptable be forthcoming before the September 1.

They won’t be forced into a sale however, with no club yet coming close to reaching Rovers’ valuation.

Brereton is set to be rested for Tuesday night’s Carabao Cup tie at Bradford City, as he was against Hartlepool United, but he has played in all five of Rovers’ Championship fixtures to date, scoring twice.

Asked about the reports of Brereton asking to leave, Tomasson said: “I can only see the boy, as I’ve said many times, he’s laughing every day, enjoying his time here.

“He’s doing his best for Rovers, as he should do.

“If a club comes in, then good players cost money. I said it every third day.”
