Rovers aren’t alone in facing a crucial end to the transfer window – with Jon Dahl Tomasson praising the professionalism of Ben Brereton amid the ongoing speculation surrounding his future.

Three players have been added to the squad this summer, but the club are eyeing further additions to beef up their options ahead of the September 1 deadline.

The squad has been left light of options, but also experience, after a host of summer departures with still only three players through the door.

Many Championship clubs are still shaping their squads, despite being four games into the season, given the transfer window runs for another two weeks.

The head coach knows the need for new recruits during a busy period, with Rovers still having three league games, and a Carabao Cup second round tie at Bradford City, to come this month.

Tomasson wants the ability to rotate and be flexible with his squad, but knows more new faces are needed for that to happen.

He said: “It’s a huge few weeks for a lot of clubs, isn’t it? Especially in this market.

“I think if you look at us and other clubs it is the same issue.

“I have said from day one, the club need to provide that and quicker is better, we all know that.

“Especially when you play a lot of games, it’s always good to rotate and keep players fit.

“In that way, let’s hope that the doors are opening and a couple of players are coming in quickly. I am not dreaming every morning but I am hoping players will come in quick like every Rovers fan.

“I can’t imagine that it wouldn’t happen. There are a couple of weeks still but quicker is better.”

Rovers this week turned down a bid from Ligue 1 side OGC Nice for attacker Ben Brereton.

The offer of 10m Euros fell well below Rovers’ valuation for the Chile international who hasn’t asked to leave, nor has he shown signs of being affected by the speculation.

“No (he has never asked to go). He is only focused on Rovers and not the surroundings,” Tomasson added.

“He wants to help the team, the club and it’s brilliant. He is a young boy still and he is coping with all these things still.

“He’s enjoying himself and he’s a good boy.

“I have spoken a lot about Ben, which is fine because he is great.

“I am impressed that he is so stable. Let’s see what kind of amount comes, if they are coming.”

Everton have joined the list of clubs keen on a move for Brereton in the closing weeks of the window.

Fulham have been credited with interest, but look set to move for Brighton forward Neal Maupay, while Bournemouth are unlikely to reach the £20m valuation that Rovers have for Brereton.
