Burnley are predicted to finish fourth in the Championship this season, according to a supercomputer.

The Clarets have picked up five points from their opening four league matches, including a 1-0 win at Huddersfield Town on the opening day.

They are currently 12th in the table ahead of Saturday’s clash with Lancashire rivals Blackpool at Turf Moor.

Vincent Kompany’s men are predicted to make the play-offs come the end of the season, according to football statistics website FiveThirtyEight.

The table is based on a wide range of data and predicts that the Clarets have a 33 per cent chance of finishing in the top six.

It also predicts that Burnley have a 29 per cent chance of winning promotion back to the Premier League at the first attempt and a 10 per cent chance of clinching the title.

The table suggests that Watford will finish top of the league, with Sheffield United also securing automatic promotion.

Norwich City, West Bromwich Albion and Middlesbrough are also predicted to make the play-offs alongside Burnley.

At the other end of the table, Rotherham United, Wigan Athletic and Birmingham City are all expected to suffer relegation to League One.
