Reading boss Paul Ince felt his side executed their gameplan “perfectly” during their 3-0 win against Rovers at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.

Tom McIntyre, Junior Hoilett and Lucas Joao were all on target for the Royals, while Jon Dahl Tomasson's men registered just one shot on target.

Ince says his side knew what to expect from Rovers and was delighted with their efforts at both ends of the pitch.

"I felt we needed to be on the front foot,” he told Berkshire Live. “Blackburn are a very good side but we knew the way they wanted to play.

“We set the team up to be on the front foot, set traps and they did it perfectly.

“The Championship is a grind and it's up and down, but you've got to work. It was a great performance - and I don't use great lightly - because it was both halves.

"We weren't at the races at Rotherham and we got bullied. We have a young back four but it probably helped us that Blackburn wanted to play football.

“Everyone is talking about the three goals but I'm talking about clean sheets. The backline were immense. Lumley… he made some world class saves and that shows he has character about him.”

It is Rovers’ first defeat of the campaign, having won their first four matches under new boss Tomasson.

“We started well,” added Ince. “The crowd were with us and we deserved to go in at half time in the lead. We could have scored more too, that was the only concern.

"I said to the lads at half time, 'this is us’. That's what I expect and if you perform like that then you'll win more than you lose.

“I always felt we needed the second goal. When we got the third, it's probably the first time since I've been here where I could relax.

“That was a nice feeling. All the credit to the players - they were amazing."
