Jon Dahl Tomasson was delighted with his side’s togetherness as they overcame injuries, and a late West Brom fightback, to make it three league wins from three.

It has been a perfect start from Tomasson whose side hold the Championship’s only remaining 100 per cent record, having also progressed in the Carabao Cup.

Ben Brereton scored one and made the second for Sam Gallagher either side of half time. Grady Diangana’s deflected shot was the first goal that Rovers conceded of the Tomasson era, but they held out to claim another valuable three points.

“Extremely pleased, especially when you’re starting a new project which this is as I’ve said from day one,” Tomasson said.

“We are ambitious but we are thinking with patience.

“We don’t have the money that the rest of the clubs so we need to do things differently and slowly build and build.

“We have a lot of youngsters we need to develop those to create a better team but also to create value.

“At the end of the day we need to be a sustainable Premier League, but we need to get up there and stay there.

“So that’s a project but it’s great and I’m happy to celebrate another win with the fans.”

The players had to battle the warm temperatures at Ewood, with a drinks break at the midway point of both halves.

Rovers lost Scott Wharton to injury before the game, with Ash Phillips, who was handed his league debut at the heart of the defence, withdrawn with cramp.

Callum Brittain was replaced at the break, leaving Rovers having to move John Buckley to right back, and Harry Pickering replacing Phillips in the centre as Tayo Edun was brought on.

And Tomasson added: “If you see the way they are fighting and with the weather, normally winning games helps in that way. I like winning, the boys like winning but we are still under construction.

“The boys are working to be better every day and when you see the happiness you are also happy.

“It was a fantastic result against one of the better teams in the league. A team that are bigger than we are regarding parachute money, they have to be up there.

“It was a great performance, we knew with their good players that they would ask questions with how to cope with different situations.

“My players did a fantastic job dealing with those situations, they stick together in difficult circumstances.

“Not just the weather but the changes before and during the game. In that way it was tough but you saw the team spirit.

“We enjoyed the win with our fans, it was a great atmosphere during the game and you saw the happiness on everyone's faces.

“We scored two goals, I call them Playstation goals, FIFA goals. One and two touches, lovely to see and great finishes.”

Rovers were forced into a reshuffle before the game, at half time and then again for the final quarter as Phillips was replaced.

They had to negotiate 11 nervy additional minutes, but did so with only a few scares, as they kept up their winning start to the season.

Of those changes, Tomasson said: “If you look at those things that happened in the game and how they coped with that, incredible.

“It says a lot about the team spirit those boys have.

“It’s not easy to go from one position to another and still the whole team works together.

“It was logical that the last part of the game we weren’t playing as well, on the ball, because we were defending more which is important.

“But if you look at those changes it was difficult, but all the players stuck together.”
