Jon Dahl Tomasson has been impressed with how his side have taken on tactical instruction in the opening games.

The head coach believes Rovers’ two Championship wins, and Carabao Cup success, have seen them overcome individual challenges and done in very different ways.

They edged an even game with QPR on the opening day before backing that up with an excellent, and clinical, display at Swansea City where they spent the majority of the game without the ball.

They had almost exclusive use of possession against League Two side Hartlepool United in midweek, making light work of the League Two side, despite several other Championship clubs struggling against lower league opposition.

Tomasson is approaching two months in charge of Rovers and has been pleased with the application of his side.

He said: “You can say that in a way it’s been three different games.

“We were very solid against QPR, and deserved to win that game.

“It was a totally different game against a side who were very good on the ball at Swansea and the boys adapted to the tactical changes. They did that to a very high level.

“(Hartlepool) could have been a difficult game. All those Championship clubs who lost, the boys have done an excellent job.

“Three games but three very professional performances which you always need

“You should always make the right choices on the pitch and that’s what I’ve seen at the moment.

“Three clean sheets, every defender and every goalkeeper loves that.

“I think the fans loved that as well.”

Rovers take their 100 per cent start into matchday three when they host West Bromwich Albion.

The Baggies are expected to be promotion contenders this season, with Steve Bruce having strengthened his squad this summer on the back of a disappointing 2021/22 campaign.

It will be a gauge of just where Rovers are, with the Baggies having so far had draws with fellow promotion contenders Middlesbrough and Watford, while beating Sheffield United in the Carabao Cup.

They were impressive in victory 12 months ago against Rovers, but both sides have gone through plenty of change since.

Of tomorrow’s visitors, Tomasson said: “Very good side, extremely good side.

“They need to be up there if you look at the budget, players, but we are ambitious and want to do the best.

“We start every game wanting to win it.

“You will never win every game but that’s the ambition.

“We want to do it our way and we will have a game-plan.”

The Baggies have been hit by an injury to striker Daryl Dike who is set for two months on the sidelines, while there is also a concern over the fitness of Karlan Grant.
