Club Brugge boss Carl Hoefkens has made it clear that Jack Hendry will not be part of his plans over the coming season.

Hendry was linked with a move to Turf Moor earlier this summer as Vincent Kompany continues to put his stamp on the squad.

The 27-year-old defender was regularly involved last season as the Belgian side clinched the league title.

But he was left out of the squad for last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Zulte Waragem after failing to impress the new boss.

Hoefkens said: “At the beginning of the season, even before the preparation, I said, ‘Everyone gets their chance’.

“That has happened at the moment. Everyone has had a chance to prove themselves. And from now on, the situation is clear to everyone.”

Hendry came through the ranks at Patrick Thistle and also had spells with Celtic and Oostende among others.

He made the move to Club Brugge last summer and featured against Kompany’s Anderlecht on several occasions.

The Clarets had a bid turned down for the defender earlier this summer, according to Scottish Daily Express.

Hendry also has experience on the international stage, having made his senior debut for Scotland back in 2018.

And he will be hoping to be named in Steve Clarke's squad for the Nations League matches against Ukraine and Republic of Ireland next month.
