Jon Dahl Tomasson says the win at Swansea City will only help build belief within the Rovers squad.

A debut goal from Sam Szmodics and second half strikes from Ben Brereton and Lewis Travis made it back-to-back wins for Rovers at the start of the season.

They backed up their opening day win, and clean sheet, against QPR with three goals without response to record victory in south Wales.

Key to their win was their defensive organisation, with Tomasson believing his side controlled the game with their shape, but showed a ruthless and clinical edge on the counter-attack.

He said: “They are great boys, they’ve been working hard from day one.

“The team spirit and togetherness, they want to help each other.

“It’s been very nice to be involved with those boys because it’s not always like that when you come into a new place.

“They are buying into it and hopefully with this one they will believe even more.

“I only can give them a big compliment, they were very disciplined, 90 minutes long, and keeping a clean sheet was also important.

“Great work from all of the players, not just the 11 that started.”

Of the performance, he added: “Performance tactically was of a high class.

“We worked on this game-plan the whole week, the way the players did it, we controlled the game out of possession against a team who are very good on the ball.

“We looked dangerous and threatening with those transition moments the whole game.

“When Swansea had an attack I think we looked solid defending our box so I’m very pleased.

“The boys followed that plan like they should do, maybe they’re more tired in the head than the legs today.

“There were three beautiful goals, Sam getting his first goal which is always nice for a player.

“Ryan two assists and of course Bez getting his first goal of the season with all the rumours around him, and a clean sheet for our defenders and Thomas.

“I’m very pleased with the performance from the boys.”

Szmodics tucked home his first in Rovers colours with his first chance before half-time.

The lead was doubled just before the hour as Brereton finished emphatically from a Ryan Hedges through-ball, while Travis completed the rout six minutes before the end after substitute Tyrhys Dolan led the break.

“First of all very important that you are clinical with those situations,” Tomassson added.

“They were good chances that you should have taken, they needed to take those, but to make the right choices was important.

“Ryan kept his cool, played the ball to Sam because he was in a better position. Excellent job.

“I’m very pleased with the performance and for the fans who travelled with us.

“The journey back home will be even better.”

Rovers defended well, with Thomas Kaminski relatively untroubled, though that was largely due to the resolute defending of those infront of him.

“Very determined. A clean sheet is very important, but I think we controlled the game out of possession,” Tomasson added.

“That was the game-plan and the boys followed that. Throughout the game I thought we looked dangerous with those transition moments.

“We knew we were playing against a good team on the ball.

“Football you need to be flexible. Last game against QPR we had another game-plan and the boys did that in a different way and I think that was important.”
