Rovers have announced the signing of Peterborough United attacker Sammie Szmodics.

The 26-year-old arrives on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

The deal, signed through to 2025, also includes a 12-month option in the club's favour.

He is the club’s second signing of the day after the unveiling of Tyler Morton on a season-long loan deal from Liverpool.

Szmodics travelled north today to finalise the move and has since passed his medical.

He will train with the squad for the first time tomorrow, with the prospect of a debut in Saturday’s trip to Swansea City.

Director of Football, Gregg Broughton, said: “We identified that we needed to add both athleticism and another goal threat to the squad, and Sammie gives us both of these qualities.

“When he was played centrally for the final 10 Championship games of last season, we saw Sammie recreate his form from League One, with four goals and an assist, along with both the creative and physical metrics of an attacking midfielder who will add a different dimension to our group.

“As importantly, we know what Sammie will bring as a character and how easily he will fit into the great team spirit and mentality of our players.”

Szmodics hit seven goals last season for Posh, including against Rovers in April.

He managed 16 in their League One promotion campaign of 2020/21 having arrived at the club from Bristol City for a fee of around £1m.

Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony said: “Sammie and his wonderful family will be missed. A true Posh legend who lit a fuse under us to get promoted back the Championship two years ago. He deserves this move and I will be a fan from afar.”
