Rovers have signed Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton on a season-long loan deal.

Morton will spend the 2022/23 season at Ewood Park after the two clubs reached an agreement last month.

The move was held up due to injuries within the Liverpool squad, with Morton continuing to feature for Jurgen Klopp’s side, including in Sunday’s friendly defeat to Strasbourg.

But with the close season fixtures now done, Liverpool have sanctioned a move for the highly-rated 19-year-old.

Morton has already made nine first-team appearances for Liverpool, including a Premier League start against Tottenham Hotspur last season.

He becomes the third Liverpool youngster to make the move to Rovers in as many seasons, following on from Harvey Elliott and Leighton Clarkson.

Director of Football Gregg Broughton said: “We have had to wait patiently for Tyler, as he has been so close to Liverpool’s first team for the whole of pre-season, but after seeing what he did in some big games for Liverpool last year, we believe he was worth waiting for.

“Strategically we knew we needed to add another central midfielder to the squad for this season and a loan suited us ideally to ensure we didn’t block the medium-term pathways of some of our own young midfielders who have done so well for us over the last eight weeks.

“We are very grateful to Liverpool for trusting us with the continued development of a player who is rated so highly at the club.”

Morton will train with the Rovers squad for the first time tomorrow and is eligible to play in the both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.
