Rovers are still expected to tie up the loan signing of Tyler Morton.

A season-long loan agreement between the clubs was reached earlier this month, though the move was held up due to unavailability issues with the Liverpool squad.

The midfielder played 15 minutes of the Reds’ pre-season friendly with Red Bull Salzburg earlier this week and could feature again for Jurgen Klopp’s side this weekend.

Liverpool face Manchester City in the Community Shield on Saturday evening, while those who don’t feature in that are expected to be involved against Strasbourg on Sunday.

That will conclude Jurgen Klopp’s preparations for the new season which gets under way on August 6.

Morton is expected to be involved this weekend but is then set to be freed up to join Rovers, with the likelihood of an announcement next week.

Should the move go through as expected then it will be the third successive season that Rovers have taken a Liverpool player on loan.

In 2020/21 Harvey Elliott spent the season at Ewood Park, while Leighton Clarkson was set to do likewise in 2021/22, only for his deal to be cut short in January after making nine appearances.

The two clubs have developed a strong relationship in recent times, with the 19-year-old set to become the next player to make the move.

Morton has already played nine times for Liverpool’s first-team, including a Premier League start against Tottenham Hotspur.

He would strengthen Rovers’ central midfield ranks which have been decimated following the departures of Joe Rothwell, Jacob Davenport and Bradley Johnson.
