Bradley Dack needs more minutes in his legs before being considered for a Championship start, according to Jon Dahl Tomasson.

Dack scored on his only outing of pre-season against Lincoln City where he played 60 minutes.

The 28-year-old hadn’t featured in the opening four friendlies, but was in the starting line-up for the Imps fixture last weekend and headed in Callum Brittain’s cross early in the second half to give Rovers victory.

Dack managed only nine appearances, all as a substitute, when returning from his second ACL injury in March.

He netted his 50th goal for the club at Coventry City a month later, but it is now 16 months since Dack last started a Championship fixture.

That wait is set to go on, but having continued to train with the squad throughout pre-season, the likelihood is that he will be in the squad for the weekend visit of QPR.

Speaking after the Lincoln friendly, Tomasson said: “He's brilliant, he can score from nothing.

“He needs more physically but I'm very pleased he got 60 minutes and grabbed the goal.

“Perfect for him in that way, it could've been a better pre-season because he hasn't played matches. He's digging in, he's doing his best.”

Dack was part of the 24 outfield players who took part in the opening training session on Monday.

Ryan Hedges sat out the session owing to the number of minutes played in pre-season.

Rovers have otherwise fared well on the injury front in pre-season, with Tomasson pleased with how his side have shaped up.

He has praised the work of performance director Ben Rosen whose appointment was confirmed alongside the head coach last month.
