Former Rovers loanee Reda Khadra has signed for Sheffield United for the 2022/23 season.

The forward, who spent last season at Ewood Park, has been unveiled as a Blades player after the Championship club agreed a deal with Brighton.

The Seagulls loaned Khadra to Rovers last season, the forward scoring five goals in 28 appearances, including against the Blades at Ewood Park in November.

Injuries hampered his impact at either end of the campaign, but inbetween the 21-year-old became a key part of the side as Rovers moved into promotion contention.

Khadra had interest from Championship clubs this summer, as well as Hertha Berlin, but a move to the Blades has now been confirmed.

He has made one senior appearance for Brighton since signing from Borussia Dortmund in 2020, with his deal at the AMEX Stadium set to expire in the summer.

Khadra said: Β "I'm really happy to be here now and I just can't wait to get started and playing in front of the fans. The atmosphere at Bramall Lane was the best I experienced in the Championship last season and I'm excited by this opportunity.

"I sensed the fans were right behind the team and obviously I scored on my first start for Blackburn Rovers against the Blades at Ewood Park. I'm already looking forward to Monday's game at Watford."

Paul Heckingbottom had tried to sign Khadra on a permanent deal this summer, but the clubs eventually agreed on a loan switch for the 21-year-old.

He impressed in the fixture at Bramall Lane, despite seeing a second half penalty saved as Rovers were beaten 1-0.

And the Blades boss said: "This is a deal that has taken a while, there has been lots of ups and downs. But we've managed to get him in on loan which is great for us and Reda is just as excited as we are.

"We spoke with Brighton about Reda a long time ago and that pleased him, when he spoke to us he knew he wanted to come here and it has been a case of remaining patient whilst a deal was agreed between the clubs.

β€œHe is different to a lot of players we've got, he's naturally very direct and has explosive pace which Blades fans will have noted from playing against us last season."

Khadra didn't feature for Brighton in pre-season as negotiations over a move away took place.
