Rovers are yet to return with a follow-up bid for Peterborough United attacker Sammie Szmodics.

Peterborough United director of football Barry Fry says the League One club have rejected three bids from Rovers for the 26-year-old, but there hasn’t since been any contact between the clubs.

Fry said two of those bids were formal, and a third verbal, all in excess of £1m but all rejected by Posh.

And Fry told the Peterborough Telegraph: "It has been quiet lately regarding transfers. I rejected two written bids from Blackburn and then a verbal bid, but I’ve heard nothing from them in the last fortnight.”

Szmodics scored seven times in 39 appearances for Peterborough last season, including against Rovers in April.

He also found the net 16 times in 2020/21 as Posh were promoted from League One, having signed permanently at the start of the season from Bristol City.

Szmodics has two years left to run on his contract at the ABAX Stadium and scored twice in a win over Hull City at the weekend.

Rovers have so far raided another relegated Championship team to land Callum Brittain as their first senior signing of the summer, as the right-sided defender joined on a four-year deal for a seven-figure deal.

Jon Dahl Tomasson says money is available to strengthen his squad, with the transfer window open until September 1.

At least four more new recruits are targeted before then, with Rovers keen to add quality and experience to their ranks.
