Jon Dahl Tomasson wouldn’t give a definitive answer over Rovers’ pursuit of Callum Brittain - but hinted that a deal is in the works for the Barnsley wing-back.
Rovers are closing in on the first signing of the Tomasson era, with Brittain set to arrive from the recently-relegated Reds.
Brittain wasn’t involved for Barnsley in their friendly with Harrogate on Wednesday night, and is understood to be closing to making the move to Ewood Park, with Rovers having tried to sign him in the January window.
Tomasson says Rovers are looking to fill the spaces left by the three senior players who left the club at the end of their contracts, as well as Jan Paul van Hecke and Reda Khadra who impressed during their season-long stays from Brighton.
Asked about interest in Brittain, Tomasson said: “I’m a very boring person, I can’t say much. We’ve been linked with 100s of players in the last few weeks which is understandable because we need to get players in.
“There’s no final word when it’s not official.
“I think you can make a good story out of it.”
Rovers are understood to be making progress however in their search for new recruits which is the priority of director of football Gregg Broughton.
“As I’ve said many times, I’m very boring. I coach the team and try and make the players better and the club need to provide that,” Tomasson added.
“It’s quite simple, and of course, hopefully if we have players coming in here there will be players who go out, which is also normal.
“Of course, at the moment we have (players in) that position, if he should come in, then there could be players (going out) on loan.”
Confirming Rovers’ interest, Barnsley boss Michael Duff told the Barnsley Chronicle: “They are in talks but I genuinely don’t know where it’s up to. I imagine there might be more news tomorrow.”
