John Park looks set for a quick return to football after leaving Rovers.

Rovers confirmed last month that Park would be departing at the end of his contract which ran to June 30.

Park arrived at Rovers last summer as head of recruitment following the departure of Stuart Harvey who moved to Sunderland.

However, following the departure of Tony Mowbray and Mark Venus, who Park had previously worked with at Hibernian and Celtic, he opted to leave his role when his contract expired.

The Athletic is reporting that Park Park will now return to work north of the border at Rangers.

The Ibrox club’s Sporting Director Ross Wilson is said to have a long-term relationship with Park and has appointed him into a senior scouting role.

Park had an excellent success rate during his time with Glasgow rivals Celtic, helping bringing in players such as Virgil van Dijk, Victor Wanyama and Moussa Dembele.

And his expertise has now been acquired by Rangers who are looking to add to their recruitment team, with transfer chief Andy Scoulding set for a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Park, who was key to Rovers’ acquisition of Reda Khadra, among others, said upon leaving Rovers: “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time here and can’t praise the club enough. It was a fantastic experience working alongside Tony Mowbray and Mark Venus, as well as all of the support staff, who have helped me immensely.

“I wish the club every success in the future and I look forward to returning to Ewood Park to watch the team play under the new head coach.”

Rovers’ Director of Football Gregg Broughton added: “I’d like to place on record our sincere thanks to John for all the great work he has done in the year that he has been with the football club.

“He has put foundations in place for us to have a successful transfer window this summer and he has built a Recruitment department which allows us to have a seamless transition when the new head of player recruitment arrives.”
