Gregg Broughton says talks over the potential of extending John Park’s time at the club are yet to take place – as Rovers step up their recruitment search.

Recruitment chief Park arrived at Ewood Park last summer, reuniting with Tony Mowbray for a third time, but sees his deal expire at the end of the month.

Park is expected to leave, following Mowbray and Mark Venus out of the club, but remains in post currently as Rovers step up their hunt for new signings.

Director of football Broughton has been impressed with the work behind the scenes on the recruitment front prior to his arrival.

He admits those need to be tinkered slightly to fit the needs of new head coach Jon Dahl Tomasson who will have the final says on any prospective incoming.

While Park remains in post, how much longer for remains to be seen, though Broughton confirmed: “John is still working with us now. He’s working with me in this intensive period.

“I haven’t sat down and spoke with John about the long-term yet.

“I need to get to know him really well, I’ve had four or five really good meetings with him and been impressed with how he’s got things organised.”

Park was appointed last summer following the departure of Stuart Harvey to Sunderland.

Harvey had been entrusted by Tony Mowbray to lead a restructure of Rovers’ recruitment department, with greater emphasis and investment placed on that department since 2018.

Glyn Chamberlain had a short spell as Rovers’ head of European scouting, but left last summer.

Park had an impressive CV, following his time with Hibernian and Celtic, and arrived at Rovers during a difficult time, following Harvey’s departure and with the club in the process of coming out of a registration embargo.

Mowbray credited him with the signing of Reda Khadra in particular, Park having spotted him during a friendly between Rangers and Brighton, with the German youngster going on to be a regular in the side.
